Learn to Draw the Portrait
February 04, 2020 - March 24, 2020
This is an 8-week skill-based training method for the beginner and the intermediate portrait artist. Learning to Draw the Portrait using the Classical Method develops both observational and conceptual skills simultaneously. Each lesson focusses on one formal element of drawing with subsequent lessons building on each other, making for a solid foundation for technical and expressive competence.
Starting with the basics of shape, and how to capture the gesture of a portrait, students are guided through a series of exercises to understand the construction of the head, neck and shoulders, leading to a focus on facial features and facial expressions. Students will be guided in developing their ability to measure, to obtain accurate proportion and placement of features in relation to each other and how to use value to show volume and structure.
The course serves as a solid foundation for artists wishing to produce classical portrait drawings. Although designed for the beginner, for those with previous experience in portraiture, this course will fill in any gaps, and consolidate their understanding of their craft
will be sent to students after registration
