In every story, there is at least one layer, spoken or only implied, where the roots lie. Because I have a fondness for innuendo, for the impulse behind the gesture, my painting process naturally leans toward finding out what it is that lies beneath the surface. In this demo, image transfer, pen, pastels and ink are applied to a sanded surface. Forms rise into visibility. A layer of cold wax lends transparency, enhancing depth and distance. Distance and time are the themes that emerge.
Carol Munro has been painting for over 40 years, and for the past 15 of those, she has worked in encaustic and mixed media. She is an Active Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and a member of CanWax West. Her work is represented in Penticton at Tumbleweed Gallery and Saint-Germain Cafe/Gallery. Her approach to the work is adventurous and quirky, always evolving. Carol’s website is www.carolmunro.ca
