Building Dimension with Sculpting Gel with Debra Martin
January 18, 2020
Saturday, January 18 10:00 – 11:30AM
Saturday, January 18 1:00 – 2:30PM
In this demo Debra will focus on many of the techniques she uses when painting florals. She will demonstrate building shapes on canvas using thick gel medium and various sizes and shapes of brushes to achieve a 3 dimensional effect. Progressive layers of transparent and opaque paints will be used to build up colour on the sculpted shapes to further develop depth and dimension. Debra will also discuss her own personal understanding of composition, and techniques to create balance, flow and tension between positive and negative spaces.
Debra lives and paints in the Okanagan Valley. Primarily self-taught, she methodically builds multiple layers of transparent and opaque paint on her canvas to create drama and energy in her pieces. Debra paints on large canvases and has produced several series including landscape, floral and still-life subjects including a series based on vintage bicycles. Her work is represented by Gallery 421 in Kelowna and Collectors Choice Art Gallery in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Her work can be viewed on her website: www.debramartin.ca
