Sunday, November 3 2:00PM – 3:30PM
In this demo, Lani will cover the construction of an oil painting from start to finish with a focus on layering and blending. The artist will discuss the different stages used to create a painting from start to completion, and will demonstrate the different paint handling techniques used for creating a smooth, blended finish. Attendees can expect to gain an understanding of how to work with layers and handle a variety of brushes and paint consistencies.
Lani focuses her work on large-scale paintings, depicting an entourage of virtualized female characters. The strong, often defiant women she creates, touch on themes of female identity and sexual fantasy while posing commentary on the contradictions evoked by media environments and visual messaging. Through the rendering of her characters, Lani conveys qualities of both vulnerability and courage.
Lani has exhibited in Canada as well as Mexico and the United States. Her degrees include a diploma from Kootenay School of the Arts and a BFA from NSCAD University. She has also attended Concordia University in Montreal and completed a semester of independent study in Berkeley, California.
Lani resides in Squamish, BC
