  • Feel guilty if you haven't made a mark in your book in seven days. We spend a lot of time trying to avoid guilt in our lives, he says, but guilt can also be a healthy motivator. Use it.
  • Divide the page into two or three parts, so you don't feel obligated to fill the page or complete something. The worst stumbling block people have is fear of failure. The sketchbook will be full of fragments. Accept that.

Britannia Legacy Mural Project

The Britannia Gym "C" Legacy mural is being designed and painted by students of the school and volunteers from the community. The resulting work, completed and installed in the spring of 2009, will add a colourful and dynamic facet to this diverse community. Installed on the west wall of Gym "C", it will become an important visual element in the corridor leading to the Britannia Ice Rink. Britannia Ice Rink will be a highly active site for the upcoming Olympic games and will be seen by many in the coming years....Read more

The Grand Prix d'Art in Qualicum Beach

Let's get artists out of their studios and onto the streets. The Old School House Arts Centre (TOSH) at 122 Fern Road West in Qualicum Beach does just that once a year (Saturday, July 25, 2009) to the great enjoyment of artists as well as the general public. Vancouver based artist Jin-me Yoon has been nominated for the Art Gallery of Ontario's Grange Prize. Each year, The Grange Prize recognizes the work of Canadian and international contemporary photographers, awarding $50,000 CDN to a winner chosen through an online public vote from among two Canadian and two international artists.

Learning through Art

School District 23 is pursuing a partnership with Learning Through the Arts (LTTA) in the hope of training and employing local artists to provide LTTA curriculum to as many schools as possible throughout the central Okanagan.

Supporting Inner-city Arts

On Saturday, March 28th Opus hosted our 3rd Annual Staff Bake Sale, which was held in conjunction with our annual warehouse Garage Sale. All proceeds collected from the sale of goodies were donated to the Ray-Cam Cooperative Centre's after school art programs which offer sessions such as Art Attack and Cartooning.

There was a wide variety of delectable treats ranging from cookies and bars, to loaves and cupcakes, all baked with love by Opus staff members. In total, we raised $308 – and Opus has matched that amount with a gift card for art supplies.

The Canadian Cancer Society's Camp Goodtimes was established in 1985. Since then it has continued to grow in its mission to serve children with a history of cancer, as well as their families.
