Scratching the Surface of Watercolour with Frank Townsley

Local watercolour artist Frank Townsley will demonstrate how to incorporate scratching techniques when painting waves, icicles, and trees, as well as how making graduations apply to painting skies, leaves, and spheres. Frank studied landscape watercolour painting under Paul Souze and was admitted into the Federation of Canadian Artists in 1979. In addition to his painting, he teaches painting and photography at school boards, senior centers, and private clubs.

After a lifelong career in forensic civil engineering in South Africa, Dave started watercolour painting in 2002 and rapidly progressed to the coveted "Associateship" with the Watercolour Society of South Africa in 2007. In Watercolour Mediums 101 you will be educated on the different Watercolour mediums we have available and their various uses in watercolour painting, including masking fluid (aka Frisket). After some basic instruction you will be able to work with and experiment with the various mediums and discuss any questions or ideas you many encounter.

You will be provided with all materials needed to experiment and work with during the class. You will also be given some tools and paper to take home to try for yourself.
