Dave will be focusing on the value of the 3 pure pigment, translucent, primary watercolours and how they can create punch in a painting. The painting he has in mind is a sunlit tropical scene with a sail boat pulled up on the beach.

After a lifelong career in forensic civil engineering in South Africa, Dave started watercolour painting in 2002 and rapidly progressed to the coveted "Associateship" with the Watercolour Society of South Africa in 2007. Join local watercolour artist Frank Townsley as he demonstrates how to paint different types of trees (even snow covered), northern lights, storm clouds, as well as attendee-suggested subjects and how to interpret photographs for painting.

A native Vancouverite, Frank studied landscape watercolour painting at the Art Center, College of Design, and was admitted into the Federation of Canadian Artists in 1979. In addition to his painting, he teaches painting and photography at school boards, senior centres, and private clubs throughout the lower mainland.

Watercolour Mediums 101

In Watercolour Mediums 101 you will be educated on the different Watercolour mediums we have available and their various uses in watercolour painting, including masking fluid (aka Frisket). After some basic instruction you will be able to work with and experiment with the various mediums and discuss any questions or ideas you many encounter.

You will be provided with all materials needed to experiment and work with during the class. You will also be given some tools and paper to take home to try for yourself.
