Opus Outdoor Painting Challenge 2015

THANK YOU to the 949 artists of all ages who challenged themselves to capture the beauty of nature, urban life, and their imaginations in our 4th Annual Opus Outdoor Painting Challenge, held at all six Opus locations across BC on Sunday, May 10th, 2015.

Click to jump to photo galleries from each of our locations:
Granville Island, Downtown Vancouver, North Vancouver, Langley, Kelowna, and Victoria.

The day was full of families and friends celebrating Mother’s Day in this unique and creative way. What better way to say “I love you,” than spending the day sharing the joy of art with your mom? Solo artists also took their creative process outside and shared it with their communities, alongside our on-site experts, who spoke with participating artists as they painted en plein air for the challenge.

Another big THANK YOU is in order for the 18 judges who made the tough decisions when selecting the top picks for each age category. We would also like to thank this year’s sponsors who donated mounds of amazing art supplies to be given away as draw prizes. The energy and excitement challengers had at the idea of winning more materials to make their art was palpable!

The day is done but the Opus Outdoor Painting Challenge is not over. We hope you continue this outdoor adventure by challenging yourself this summer and beyond! For more tools on how to maximize your success in the great outdoors, check out our Resources for the Outdoor Artist page for links to plein air inspired videos, and read our full article Packing for Plein Air Success to gather insights on what eight plein air artists from across BC bring with them into the field.

We also host Visiting Artists who offer free demonstrations at Opus on all manner of art techniques, including working outdoors.

Our staff documented some of the day at each of Opus location: Granville Island, Downtown Vancouver, North Vancouver, Langley, Kelowna, and Victoria. The judges top selections from each location, images from the day, and links to blog posts of the event are below.
