Sonia Mocnik

Sonia Mocnik Contemporary Art

Self-taught artist Sonia Mocnik worked in the area of risk management prior to listening to her inner voice and getting back to her creative side of painting. Her first exhibit was in 2009 and she became a full time artist in 2011. She was born in Vancouver, British Columbia. She now lives and paints between Vancouver and Lake Chapala, Mexico. The beautiful natural surroundings of mountains, ocean and parks in B.C. and the abundant bird life, vibrancy of color and charm of the small towns on Lake Chapala, Mexico provide many interesting themes for her paintings and drawings. She is drawn to watercolour, but enjoys pen and ink and acrylic as media.
Sonia loves painting en plein air. She regularly takes part in plein air grand prixs and paint outs. She has received people’s choice awards for her work as well as prizes for her plein air in the 2015 and 2016 Harmony Arts Grand Prix of Plein Air. She was awarded 2nd place for her watercolor painting Tlacapaque in Ajijic, Jalisco, Mexico. She is an Active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, the Hycroft Painters, the Vancouver Sketch Club, the Lake Chapala Painting Guild and the Ajijic Society of Arts.
