Alcohol Inks - one day workshop covering the basics and inking on canvas

Instructor: Louise Adams
Location(s): Kelowna
Topic(s): Mixed/Other Media
May 29, 2017
$140.00 for the day

ALCOHOL INKS are a relatively new medium. The inks are used as is or are mixed with isopropyl alcohol to create amazing flowing images. Very intense in colour, the inks interact with the alcohol to produce a variety of stunning shades and shapes. The inks are very flexible, versatile and fun to work with. Many surfaces, techniques and possibilities exist. Generally the inks are used on non-porous surfaces like yupo and ceramic but possibilities also exist on porous surfaces. A great painting adventure!
Basics Session - Morning:
The surfaces we will be working with are yupo and ceramic tiles. You will be introduced to several basic techniques, learn about new materials and experiment. Demonstrations and hands on guidance will be provided from instructor Louise Adams. Sample work showing what can be achieved with this addicting and versatile medium will provide inspiration. No prior experience is required.
Painting on Canvas Session - Afternoon:
In the second half of the workshop you will learn how to prepare a canvas to turn its porous surface into a paintable non-porous surface. As we move to a larger surface, new techniques and supplies are combined with brilliant free flowing alcohol inks to take participants in bold new directions.
All materials will be supplied including a 10x10 inch gallery wrapped prepared canvas. You will have fun, be amazed at your creativity, meet some new people and go home with several brilliant energetic abstract paintings. Some final touches may be required when you go home to finish and preserve your images.
