Workshop: Painting on Ephemera to Create your own Journal/Sketchbook with Veronica Roth
Sun, April 30, 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Sun, April 30, 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
April 5, 2017 – Please note: Both of these demonstrations are now full, but please sign up for the wait list: often there is an attendee who needs to cancel. Thank you for your interest!
Are you drawn to vintage ephemera? Come join Veronica and learn how to make a one of a kind sketchbook or journal using beautiful old papers and vintage books. This is a great way to repurpose saved pieces of the past for the future!
There is so much more that we can do with our imagination than paint on white paper if we just learn how. Old paper is tricky and unpredictable to work with and often it is fragile, not acid free, absorbs paint and water at different rates, and changes colour and texture over time. All of these factors must be considered when using old paper in art work.
Veronica has had to relearn watercolours and develop new techniques to paint on old ephemera and is going to show you everything she knows! She will be using vintage books and various old ephemera, such as 100 year old music sheets and bits of vintage maps.

Veronica Roth has had an idea that she wants to capture and save everything. To that end, she loves painting on ephemera, especially bits of paper people have thrown away, such as old music sheets or book pages. She loves the thought of taking something someone else might see as worthless, and adding value to it with her art.
Veronica also loves all sorts of art: the slip of oil on canvas, the blur of watercolour on paper, the layering of ephemera over ephemera in collage, the print of linocuts, the soldering of layers of metal, the melting of glass. She has tried almost every medium and likes to share everything she finds out on her blog. She lives in Vancouve r, BC and also in Oxfordshire England, where she drives on the wrong side of the road. Veronica admits, she does drive too fast.
