July 10, 2018 – Notice of Correction: In our latest Art News Email, we mistakenly listed the date of this demonstration as July 15. The demonstration date is actually Saturday, July 21. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Discover the magic of alcohol inks and how they flow and mix on the surface to create abstract art.

Join Fran as she demonstrates how she brings out an image by moving the paint around to add or subtract colour. Learn how she chooses her colours, applies them, and then lets the inks ‘speak’ to her as they flow together on the surface. One can work in total abstraction or allow an image to emerge and then add more detail using various tools, compressed air, straws, brushes, and skewers to get different effects.

Fran will also demonstrate using various impervious surfaces such as Yupo Paper, ceramic tile, metal or glass. Molotow pens can also be used to draw patterns on the dried alcohol - achieving a lovely effect. She hope you will see how exciting it is to loosen up and let the ink move and pattern - right before your eyes!

Space is limited and registration is required.
Please visit Opus Langley or contact them at 604‑533‑0601 to register.

About the Artist

Although I have been a painter most all of my life, graduated from Emily Carr in 1995, I have done little in the way of abstraction. I was looking for a change so I Googled abstraction, came across the paintings with alcohol inks, saw some online demos and was captured! The colors exciting like the colors of flowers and sunsets, rainbows and so alive! Yet thinned out with alcohol and Extender the inks can be very soft and subtle too.
