Learn how to approach art as an industry with Pennylane Shen.
Pennylane will discuss the commercial and public art industries. Her presentation will help guide emerging artists and established artists alike in pursuing careers in the Vancouver art market, or expanding their existing exhibition repertoire.
Pennylane teaches full courses in Vancouver, New York, and Toronto. This demonstration is a condensed introductory session, combining theory, industry experience, and practical resources for the emerging artist. Learn practical steps towards getting a foothold in the Vancouver art market.

Pennylane Shen is a curator, educator and artist advisor. Pennylane Shen holds a Master’s Degree in Visual Culture Theory from New York University and a Bachelor of arts’ Degree in Art and Art History from the University of Toronto. Her company, Dazed and Confucius Consulting, coordinates seminars and offers one-on-one artist consultations, advising emerging artists on how to achieve their career goals in the fine art industry. At Langara College, Pennylane is responsible for creating and currently instructing the courses: Marketing for the Fine Artist and The Photographic Concept. She is currently also a representative of the Bau-Xi Gallery, one of the oldest and most reputable commercial galleries in Canada. Pennylane manages and is one of the founding members of the Vancouver figurative artists’ collective Phantoms in the Front Yard, showcasing the work of 8 prominent Vancouver artists at various pop-up locations. An avid supporter of the benefits of fine art in healing and wellness, she sits on the board for the Vancouver General Hospital and UBC Foundation art collections committee.
