November 15, 2017 – Please note: We are sorry to announce that this demonstration has been cancelled. Thank you for your interest.

In this demonstration Nicola will discuss the unique properties of cold wax medium and its many uses when combined with oil paint and other mediums.

This versatile medium is tactile and relatively easy to use. Through discussing the many advantages of C.W.M. as well as it’s properties, she will demystify the perceived complexities of working in oil paints.

A series of small demonstrations will reveal how cold wax medium can create layers of opaque and transparent colour as well as experimental layering effects.

Nicola will also discuss and demonstrate various substrates for stability and also painting mediums that can be added for thinning and drying speeds. She will also bring along various unorthodox painting tools that can create exciting effects.

Finally, Nicola will be discussing the elements of design when working with cold wax medium and how being aware of these elements can lead to a successful and harmonious abstract painting.

Space is limited and registration is required.
Please visit Opus North Vancouver or contact them at 604‑904‑0447 to register.

Born in Victori a BC, Nicola received a Painting BFA from Emily Carr University, and a Fine Arts Diploma from Langara College. She has shown in many art galleries including Ukama Gallery and Espace D. Gallery in Vancouver, Gallery 333 in Toronto, and Pod Contemporary in Salt Spring Island.

“The process of art making is as personal as it is mysterious. It is an action of surrender through paint, to a world where time is suspended and layers of newly found realities are discovered. I strive for balance in my paintings which presents a the challenge of intention of expression and the spontaneous act of physical painting. Initially I lose myself in the exploration and colour and form and all the surprises it brings. It’s my time of decadence and pure play. Then comes a time of patience, observation and critical response.” - Nicola Morgan, 2016
