Contemporary Abstract Painting with Johnny Taylor

Johnny will present his creative process which draws inspiration from architectural elements fused with the natural world.

Johnny references traditional Asian art- namely Japanese and Chinese paintings- as well as modern abstract expressionists. This demo will highlight his experimental edge to his painting style, including the non-traditional painting surfaces he incorporates into his body of work.

Johnny Taylor (b. 1973) is a contemporary abstract painter. He has been pursuing his current methodology for the past fifteen years. His recent work combines aspects of modern architecture, traditional Chinese painting and Japanese woodblock prints. His foundation was shaped by the study of early Canadian landscape painting, abstract expressionism and blueprint drafting.

Taylor is based in Vancouver, travelling frequently to Los Angeles and Japan for creative studies. In 2015 he was awarded a residency in the international program at the renowned 3331 Arts Chiyoda in Tokyo. Taylor was a merit scholarship candidate at the school of the Art Institute of Chicago. Works by the artist are held in collections throughout North America, Europe and Asia.
