MORE ART AT THIS YEAR’S HARMONY ARTS FESTIVAL

The 21st Harmony Arts Festival, presented by Odlum Brown Limited, is offering rich and diverse visual arts programming in West Vancouver beginning July 29. Highlights of the ten-day festival include:

• a cross-media Group Show and Showcase exhibition,
• North Shore Studio Tours and
• Artist Talks and Demonstrations
• The Artist's Circle - Celebration and Preview Exhibition

The 2011 festival proudly features the new upscale Art Market, sponsored by Vancouver’s North Shore Tourism, with a line-up of artists and artisans selected by an esteemed jury; Tam Irving, Celia Pickles, and Sylvia Tait. Taking over Argyle Avenue along the waterfront for the first time, 60+ artists and artisans from British Columbia and Ontario will be selling original creations. Festival visitors will find one-of-a-kind pottery, jewellery, fashion, leather goods, paintings, wood-work, glass and more. Come meet the talented artists and purchase a unique work of art. The Art Market debuts July 29 to August 1.

The popular RE/MAX Studio Tours give festival visitors the chance to explore the natural landscape of the North Shore while visiting art galleries and artist studios at your own pace. Don't miss out on the opportunity to meet North Shore artists in their studios. Artists will be on-hand to give personalized tours, chat and answer any questions. The 2011 RE/MAX Studio Tours are on two Sundays, July 31 and August 7 from 10 am to 5 pm. Visit the festival website for location map or refer to the centrefold of the Festival Guide.

The Showcase Exhibition will feature works by ArtSpeaks artists and invited artists at the Ferry Building Gallery. The Pacific Arbour Group Show is a juried exhibition of 59 pieces of cross-media artworks from local artists. Preview these exhibitions and read about the artists on the Festival website. These exhibitions open at 6 pm on July 29 and run until August 7 at the West Vancouver Memorial Library, Silk Purse Gallery, and Ferry Building Gallery. Artwork can be viewed and purchased daily.

The Artist's Circle - Celebration and Preview Exhibition will feature artists Gordon Smith, Douglas Coupland and special guests for an evening of artist talks and a celebration of the visual arts on August 3 (this artist talk is a ticketed event). Preview compelling artwork by leading Canadian artists associated with Gordon Smith in a special exhibition on the waterfront from July 29 to August 7 (free through-out the Festival). The Artist’s Circle will be located on the 1500 blk of Argyle Avenue.
