Solo show "Spirit of Down under

Ilsoo’s solo show “ Spirit of Down Under “ September 6- 19, 2010, at the Longhouse Gallery 56th street, Tsawwassen, Open 10AM – 6 PM Daily.
Opening reception on September 9th 5PM – 8PM.

Ladner, BC. Local resident as a Korean-Canadian artist, she returned school when her age 65, graduated from University of British Columbia Bachelor of Studio Art. Ilsoo explore her cross-cultural experiences through her multimedia works. In her most recent works, however, she has used the art-making process to think about the environment and environmental issues.

In this series of paintings and photographic images, her surrounding landscape has served as a backdrop to her daily life within her adopted homeland over the past decades. She has also been experimenting with photographic images superimposed on to photographic prints.

The over thirty installation she have used the paintings process and references to the tradition of landscape painting to capture the beauty of the land and trees in areas around where she live. In the second group, photographic images are double exposed and blended together to convey the darker side of the landscape that her love. Ilsoo is concerned in these works to confront the more troubling realities of environmental pollution that posses a threat to nature. As a way to contemplate how humans can intervene on the land they live on for better and for works. The installation will allow the viewer a glimpse of the challenges that we must face together as a society.
