A ten week Residency Opportunity for an
Emerging or Established Visual Artist*
This residency is open to all emerging and established artists working in any visual media.
Port Moody Arts Centre Society supports artistic excellence and innovation.
The residency will require an emphasis on making, learning and sharing the process of creating visual art.
The resident artist will be allocated a large, empty studio/gallery space throughout the residency to enable them to explore and create new work. This Residency will suit an artist who is interested in working in a community arts centre setting and would like to engage with the public in a dialogue about their work.
The Residency will offer:
• An opportunity to use a large empty studio space with allocated time to explore and create new work (A minimum commitment of 30 hours per week is required) during a ten week time period from August 23, 2012 until November 10,2012
• Formal and informal opportunities to engage with the public on an agreed schedule (this may include: Open Studio times, Artists Talks and Workshops)
• The support and expertise of professional gallery and arts centre staff to facilitate the residency.
• An opportunity to showcase their work during the residency.
• Publicity Material to include Business Cards, Invitations, Rack Cards, Brochure and Media Coverage.
• An Opening Reception with Artist Talk and a concluding Reception to mark the end of the Residency.
• A modest honorarium for artists talks and workshops
View of the Studio Space
• The artist residency will be located in a room just off the Main Gallery at the Arts Centre.
• The Studio is a large, bright space facing North West with five sash windows providing views onto St Johns Street.
• The Studio is adjacent to a public gallery space and reception area.
• Level access is provided by a single door at the main entrance.
• The room is carpeted but there is some flexibility to cover it.
• There are limited electrical outlets and some overhead fluorescent lights and spotlights.
• There is a water supply available on a lower floor.
• Access to the Studio is available during extensive arts centre opening hours: Mon & Fri 10am-5pm; Tue, Wed, Thu 10am-8pm; Sat: 10am-5pm Sun:noon-4pm; Closed Holidays.
• The Studio is lockable and secure.
*Emerging Artists are defined as professional artists who are at the early stages of their career. Visual Art is their main vocation, they have specialized training and some experience exhibiting their work.
*Established Artists are defined as professional artists who are recognized by their peers. They have specialized training and have created an established body of work.
