The Art of Being Together Deadline Extended!

Rules and restrictions
• 2D artwork only
• Ready to hang on easel (hooks, wire, etc)
• Does not exceed 36” in any direction
• Does not exceed 20 lbs
• One entry per artist
• Must be related to the theme of community
• Must be submitted with a brief statement (maximum 300 words) explaining the inspiration behind their submission. If selected, this statement will be on display with the artist’s work.
• Artist must live in the Lower Mainland and be able to attend the event on March 10
• Artists must be over high school age
Up to ten Finalists will be chosen whose work best reflects the theme. The Finalists’ art will be purchased by L’Arche for $250. Additional cash prizes will be awarded for the Judges’ Choice and People’s Choice Awards at the event on March 10, 2012.
The judges may also choose up to 10 Honourable Mentions that would not be purchased by L’Arche but will be included in the show. Honourable Mention artists will have the opportunity to sell their work at the show with L’Arche receiving a small gallery fee.
This show will also include The Art Together Gallery featuring collaborative art work by people with and without developmental disabilities.
About the Event:
Proceeds from the event will benefit L’Arche Greater Vancouver, a charitable organization that provides residential care and day programs for adults with developmental disabilities. L’Arche seeks to help people with a disability through a life that guarantees them a stable home, companionship, on-going learning and satisfying work.
The Art of Being Together will take place from 1:00 to 5:00pm on Saturday March 10, 2012 at the Nikkei Museum and Heritage Centre 6688 Southoaks Crescent in Burnaby. Finalists and Honourable Mentions should be in attendance for awards and presentations.
How to Apply:
Please complete submission form below. All interested artists must complete and submit the submission form prior to January 20, 2012. No submission fee required.
Artwork should be brought to (L’Arche 7401 Sussex Ave in Burnaby) between January 10 to 14, 2011 during business hours. Artists whose work will not be exhibited will be notified after January 31, 2011 and must pick up their work prior to February 18, 2011.
Artwork that is not picked up after February 18 will be disposed of at the discretion of L’Arche Greater Vancouver.
Artwork will not be accepted if it does not match meet the rules and restrictions or if the submission form is incomplete.
